Is our passion a sport?
-
Yes, since it meets the definition of a physical activity with very precise rules and giving rise to competitions.
-
Sport fishing is fishing whose main purpose is not the consumption or sale of the catch.
-
Sport fishing is a type of fishing practiced by people in possession of a sporting license, the aim of which is the pleasure of the practice, whether in competition or not, and possibly the consumption of one's catch.
-
It tends to be considered a sport in its own right with more and more practitioners, competitions all over the world and in all disciplines, but also fishermen seeking to exceed their limits and break new records.
-
It aims, for example, to capture the biggest, or the greatest number of catches possible in a limited time.
-
It generally requires more or less sophisticated equipment, experience, good physical condition and a certain amount of patience.
-
Sport fishermen generally demonstrate:
-
of a "sportsmanlike spirit", a form of "respect for the opponent" that is the fish. It is therefore increasingly common, when fishing techniques allow it, for the caught fish to be released. This practice is called no-kill. It also happens that the catch is kept for weighing and/or for personal, family consumption and/or for associations.
-
compliance with regulations, the law, the environment, competition rules, etc.
-
-
Fishing can be divided into two main types: freshwater fishing and sea fishing, which include many techniques.
-
Sport fishing is sometimes supervised by federations, leagues, committees which organize competitions , whether practiced alone or as part of competitions (where the physical aspect of this activity has nothing to envy of athletics).
