Martinique International Billfish Tournament

Significance of the event

  • Caribbean and international dimension

  • Six days of participation in the region by people from all walks of life, accompanied by their companions.

  • The Martinique International Sport Fishing Tournament has significant economic, tourist, and cultural benefits (hotel and apartment rentals, catamaran rentals on site, car rentals, catering, equipment, fuel and supplies, island tours, etc.).

  • This tournament promotes the destination as a water sports destination. It is associated with cultural and heritage discovery events organized by partner associations.

  • Sport fishermen represent significant added value because they are willing to spend a lot of money on excursions to indulge their passion as long as there is a guarantee of catching pelagic fish. Our waters are rich in pelagic fish, which means that this tournament allows us to position our destination as a prime fishing spot for billfish (blue marlin, sailfish, etc.).

  • The average American spends more than $10,000 to go marlin fishing in the Caribbean. The arrival of American companies in Martinique is an opportunity to attract the niche market of sport fishing enthusiasts.

  • The MBA's membership in the Southern Caribbean Billfish Circuit in January 2008 marks an important milestone in the association's history. There are six tournament-organizing islands that are members of the Circuit: Martinique, Saint Lucia, Barbados, Grenada, Trinidad, and Tobago.

  • Thanks to this membership, the Martinique association is now part of a Caribbean circuit that involves travel and offers the opportunity to promote the Martinique International Fishing Tournament and Martinique as a destination through the various tournaments, especially since all member countries of this circuit are required to participate in at least three tournaments during the year, particularly the Martinique tournament, which is the last tournament on the calendar and is important for the final ranking.
